About this Mission
2020-COVID 19 Relief Efforts
New Orleans was dramatically impacted by COVID in 2020. When restaurants were required to close, a significant amount of usable food product was scheduled to be destroyed. Our network and volunteers jumped into action to rescue food and get it to teams at Second Harvest Foodbank for preparation and distribution.
**NOTE- this mission was prior to our official incorporation as Fill the Needs.
Food Rescue
Our team coordinated with restaurants around the New Orleans metro area to identify usable food product and transport it to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Meals
Volunteers worked in small groups at the Second Harvest Food Bank Community Kitchen to prepare and distribute meals to quarantined residents.
COVID Safety Kits
We worked with our network partners to source and distribute COVID safety supplies such as masks, gloves, antibacterial gel, and face shields.
