Rick brought joy with him. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere — and by the end of it, you felt like you'd known him your whole life. His infectious happiness, his stories, and that unmistakable voice cheering from the stands made every room and every bleacher better for having him in it.
Why this fund exists
This is Rick.
He made everyone feel like family.From 1962 to 1968, Rick served as a soldier and medic in the Army National Guard. He often shared stories of the wounded soldiers he helped care for during his service. A graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Rick carried with him the Jesuit ideal of being a man for others—a belief reflected in the compassion, generosity, and genuine concern for people that defined his life.
Rick went on to build a career as a financial advisor, raise a family he treasured above everything, and become the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome.
After living through Hurricane Katrina, Rick experienced firsthand the devastation disasters leave behind—not only the physical destruction, but the emotional toll on families and communities trying to rebuild.
The George F. "Rick" Sins, Jr. Memorial Fund carries that spirit forward through Fill the Needs by helping communities recover from disasters and strengthening our ability to respond when the next crisis strikes. In recognition of Rick’s service in the Army National Guard, the fund holds a special place for veterans and military families while also supporting Fill the Needs’ broader work.
